Director of Legislative Operations
My name is Walt Grayson (He, Him, His) and I am serving as the Director of Legislative Operations and the Senate Rules Committee Chair for the 50th Session Senate. I am from Charlotte NC, and major in Pre-Professional Legal Studies, and International and Comparative Politics.
I was a senator for two years, working primarily with the Student Affairs and Rules Committees. During my tenure as a Senator, I wrote eight bills that advocated for an increase in on-campus parking, the introduction of an interactive campus map, a better serving housing application, the implementation of a bike share program and greenhouse on campus (along with the acquisition of a grant from the Clinton Global Initiative), a Constitutional Amendment to strengthen the credibility of Student Government, and more. My passion for the legislative process and advocacy for the Student Body drive my work in SGA. This year I plan to increase the number of meaningful and substantive bills that are introduced on the floor of the Student Senate by re-configuring the organization's understanding on how to write legislation, while also placing an increased emphasis on the issues that students raise. I plan to maintain and further the professionalism and credibility of the Rules Committee, while also placing a strong emphasis on objectivity and merit.
With each year in Student Government, my passion of advocating on behalf of students grows, and that is why I know the third year will be the best yet. Student Governments 50th year will be one for the history books!
