Hey Ya'll,

My name is Rachel Little and I am a sophomore here at Appalachian State University earning a degree in History and Anthropology. I will be serving as your Director of Diversity for the 2009-2010 academic school year. As well as serving as your Director of Diversity, I am a Diversity Scholar and I often make myself available to help with volunteer projects that promote diversity on campus and in the surrounding communities.

As many of you know, Appalachian is an amazing place to go to school. I thoroughly enjoy living in this outdoor world and Appalachian easily fosters this passion of mine. Not only do I love Appalachian for its outdoors-like atmosphere, but also for the understanding and open-minded nature of its students. For this reason, I feel as if the students here will make my job as Director of Diversity a little easier for me. My job will include a variety of tasks and responsibilities; an important responsibility of mine is to raise awareness about diversity. To me, this means bringing to light not just the differences found in the color of someone's skin, but recognizing and appreciating the various characteristics, cultures, traditions and overall distinguishing qualities that makes an individual unique in an atmosphere--an atmosphere found on Appalachian's campus-- that promotes and celebrates the adversities and achievements of said individual.
